Lemon Delight, bred by Ralph Moore, California 1977.
This soft yellow Moss rose is one of the earlier Mini Mosses from Mr. Moore's breeding program, and it is still a very fine rose. From Ralph Moore's book on breeding moss roses: "Lemon Delight, 1978, small well mossed bud opens clear yellow .... dainty 10 petaled flower. Moss on bud has delightful lemony fragrance. Breeding: Fairy Moss x Goldmoss." Goldmoss, also a Ralph Moore hybrid is from a cross of ('Mark Sullivan' X 'Golden Moss') X 'Rumba'
This is a fine little Moss rose, but it is perhaps better as a garden shrub than a pot plant, because it tends to send up some very large 24" tall shoots from the base. I grow mine as a potted shrub for now, in a very large strawberry pot, with Lobelia filling the holes on the side of the pot. 'Lemon Delight' is a very strong, vigorous rose. There is another similar Mini Moss called 'Paintbrush' that is from the same cross, and is also very beautiful.
'Lemon Delight' is available from The Uncommon Rose
