Joycie, Bred by Ralph S. Moore, Visalia California, 1988

Breeding: "1-72-1" X 'Gold Badge'

I'm not particularly fond of orange roses, but there is a certain kind of orange; a clear, fruit sherbet color that is hard to resist. 'Joycie' is one such rose. I originally acquired three plants of 'Joycie' for breeding purposes, since Kim Rupert had mentioned that it can be a very useful breeder. I have since come to enjoy it for its shapely blooms, compact and mannerly growth, and almost non-stop flower production. It even has some fragrance to offer.

'Joycie' has indeed proven to be of great value as a breeding plant, accepting a wide range of pollens, setting seed easily, and producing seeds that germinate early and quickly. I have a number of very interesting hybrids from 'Joycie' that are currently under assessment. Ralph Moore's beautiful Hybrid Tea, 'It's Showtime!' is bred from 'Joycie'.
